An Introduction to Microboards

A Microboard is a small group of committed family and friends who join together with an individual to create a non-profit Board of Directors to help a vulnerable individual with planning and managing their life. Join us in learning more from a panel of families who are actively working with this model.
The Art of Resiliency

Partners for Planning, a Toronto based organization, brings us this unique opportunity to hear about resiliency in this Ted Talks style format. This event will be webcasted live on the big screen in a local venue. Join us in this community-wide event. Local speakers will facilitate and share their own experience. Refreshments provided.
A Good Life
Tuesdays, May 22-June 26, 2018
Parents and caregivers are invited to register for this six week series on how to build a good life for their loved one with a disability. The series, based on materials from the book Safe and Secure, will guide parents through the steps to take to secure a safe future for their loved one using group facilitation and discussion.

Registered Disability Savings Plan
The Registered Disability Savings Plan (RDSP) is a savings plan designed specifically for people with disabilities in Canada. The first of its kind in the world, this new tax-deferred savings vehicle will assist around 500,000 Canadians in planning for long-term financial security. We host regular workshops on RDSP’s.
Understanding Consent, Capacity and Decision-Making Options
for Adults with Developmental Disabilities
The laws related to decision making in Ontario cn be overwhelming for many people
This session will highlight the provisions of the Health Care Consent Act, the
Substitute Decisions Act and the Mental Health Act as they relate to individuals with
intellectual disabilities and their families, as well as the implications on service
providers. In particular, the session will focus on explaining the limits of the current
legislation relating to matters affecting people’s property and personal care.
Brendon D. Pooran is the principal lawyer at Pooran Law. His practice, which is primarily built around disability issues, is inspired by the challenges people with disabilities face throughout their lives.

PLN is hosting this information session to share with families their concerns about what will happen to my adult child with disabilities after I die. Strategies on how to help with issues such as isolation, housing, financial security, and friends will be explored.
